Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate gambling behavior, anxiety, depression, ruminative thoughts and motivation and compare it with a healthy control group in patients with a gambling disorder diagnosed. Tools and Methods: A 30-65-year-old male patient sample group, who was diagnosed with gambling disorder according to the DSM-5, formed a 30-year-old male control group, consisting of the patient's relatives who appeared to the same center for non-game reasons. The participants were applied the South Oaks Gambling Score Score, the Beck Depression Score, the Beck Anxiety Score, the Ruminative Thought Score and the Barratt Density Score. The findings: Beck depression, Beck anxiety and ruminative thoughts scores were significantly higher than the control group in patients diagnosed with gambling disorder. In patients diagnosed with gambling disorder, motor Barratt's impulse scores were significantly higher than the control group. Undesigned Barratt's motivation points were higher in the control group.  The result: Gambling disorder leads to many negative personal, family and social consequences. It is noted that the application for treatment is usually not due to the gambling problem, but due to other mental problems caused by gambling. In these people, it appears important to question the identities such as anxiety, depression, to take into account the association of the disease with the ruminative nature and the impulsive attitude in the treatment planning and to address it with a more comprehensive perspective in the axis of addiction.
