Birinci Dünya Savaşı, dönemi itibarıyla kitle iletişim araçlarının hem savaşan tarafların birbirine karşı hem de kendi iç bünyelerine yönelik propaganda amaçlı kullanıldığı en önemli savaş oldu. Bu savaş sırasında Osmanlı Devleti’nde iktidarı elinde bulunduran İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti ise cephelerdeki mücadelenin yanı sıra hem savaşı sürdürebilmek, hem halkın desteğini canlı tutabilmek için basın yayın vasıtasıyla propaganda faaliyetinde bulundu. Bu amaçla sadece yetişkinlere değil devletin ve toplumun geleceği olarak görülen çocuklara yönelik de faaliyette bulunmayı ihmal etmedi. Savaş esnasında çocuk edebiyatına olan ihtiyacın arttığı, çıkacak beş ya da on çocuk risalesinin bu boşluğu güç kapatacağı, Talebe Defteri’nin de ihtiyaçtan doğan bu boşluğu kapatmada fedakârlıkla çalışacağı, gençleri fikren ve zihnen aydınlatmayı hedef olarak seçtiğini ifade eden Muallim Ahmet Halit’in kurucusu ve müdürü olduğu “Talebe Defteri” isimli çocuk dergisi de bu faaliyeti yürüten yayın organlarından birisiydi. Bu bağlamda yapacağımız çalışmanın amacı adı geçen dergi üzerinden bir dönemin siyasi ve sosyal yansımalarını, savaşın son iki yılında çocuklara yönelik ne yönde bir propaganda faaliyetinde bulunulduğunu ve nasıl bir nesil yaratma çabası içinde olduklarını ele almaktır.
The First World War was the most important battle for the propagandistic use of mass media. In the course of this war, the Committee of Union and Progress, which held power in the Ottoman Empire, carried out propaganda activities by means of the press, in order to keep the support of the people alive as well as the struggle on the fronts. For this purpose, it was not neglect to operate not only for adults but also for the children who are seen as the future of the state and society. The children's magazine, which is the founder and the director of the Teacher Ahmet Halit, was one of the publications that carried out this activity. The aim of this study is to examine the political and social reflections of a period through the aforementioned journal, how propaganda has been carried out towards children in the last two years of the war and how they are trying to create a generation.
