Abstract:

Antrochoanal polyp is a pedicled benign lesion, originating from maxillary antrum and extending into middle meatus and choana. In the cases with antrochoanal polyp the most frequent complaint for hospital admission is nasal obstruction. Snoring is rare. In this study, two children with snoring as presenting symptom were presented, differential diagnoses and treatment options were discussed. In 7 years old girl, antrochoanal polyp, adenoid vegetation partially obstructing the choana and chronic sinusitis were established. Endoscopic sinus surgery and adenoidectomy were performed. Twelve years old boy had a history of 5 recurrent operations for antrochoanal polyp during last 6 years. Recurrent antrochoanal polyp was observed with nasal endoscopy. Endoscopic sinus surgery and transcanin sinuscopy were performed. No recurrences were observed during 4 and 6 months following the surgery for the first and second cases respectively. Antrochoanal polyp should be kept in mind for differential diagnosis of snoring children. In childhood, the first choice of treatment sould be endoscopic sinus surgery. If maxillary antrum could not be cleaned though middle meatal antrostomy or there is recurrence, transcanin sinuscopy should be added.
