Abstract:

Purpose: This research of the identifying and relationship-seeking type was conducted with the aim of examining the safety of work in nurses in a certain direction of variables. Material-Method: The sample of the research was made by a total of 1072 nurses working in two different hospitals of a university and willing to research and volunteer. The data of the study was collected in the "Nursing Information Form and Employment Safety Scale". Results: The average age of the nurses involved in the study was 35.43±8.85 years and the majority (94.6%) were female nurses. 61.8 percent of nurses were married and 65.1 percent were graduates. The sub-dimensions of the nurses "Professional diseases and complaints" total score average of 1.65±0.65; the sub-dimensions of the total score average of the "Health screening and registration systems" 2.43±1.08; the sub-dimensions of the total score average of the "accidents and poisoning" 2.53±1.18; the sub-dimensions of the "Administrative support and approaches" total score average of the 1.95±0.88; the sub-dimensions of the "Material, Vehicle and Equipment Control" total score average of the 2.63±1.22; the sub-dimensions of the "Protective measures and rules" total score average of the 3.09±1.34; the sub-dimensions of the "Fysical environmental adequacy" total score of the 2.34±1.261; the sub-dimensions of the "Administrative support and approaches" Differences in statistical significance were identified between nurses' employment accident status and all underdimensions of employment safety and the total employment safety score average (p<0,05). The study concluded that nurses were not able to provide adequate level of work safety, and that patients and workers’ health committees and work health and safety units in the hospitals had great responsibilities in this regard.
