Tarihimizde bilim tarihi alanında önemli araştırmacılardan olan Sâlih Zeki Bey, bu konu hakkında uzun süre çalışıp, önemli eser ve makaleler bırakmıştır. Sâlih Zeki Bey, özellikle Matematiğin tarihi gelişimini incelemiş, çalışmaları sonucunda Müslüman bilim insanlarının bu konuda önemli rolü olduğunu tespit etmiştir ve bunu ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamıştır. Bu çalışmamızda bir matematikçi, bir fizikçi olduğu kadar aynı zamanda astronomi ve çeşitli alanlarda bilgisi olan çok yönlü bir Dârülfünun hocası Sâlih Zeki Bey’in Ebuzziya Dergisinde 1896 yılında 54. sayısında yayınlamış olduğu “İslâm’da Tarih-i Ulûm-i Riyâziyye” adlı makale serisinin ilki incelenecektir. Ayrıca bahsedilen makaleye geçmeden önceden Sâlih Zeki Bey’in hayatına, eserlerine, bilim tarihine ve bu konudaki çalışmalarını yürütmekteki amaçlarına değinilecektir.
Salih Zeki Bey, one of the important researchers in the field of the history of science in our history, has worked on this subject for a long time and left important works and articles. Salih Zeki Bey especially researched the historical development of Mathematics, as a result of his studies, he determined that Muslim scholars had an important role in this matter and aimed to reveal this. In this study, the first of the series of articles titled “History of Mathematical Sciences in Islam” published by Sâlih Zeki Bey, a mathematician, a physicist as well as a versatile Darülfünun teacher who has an information in Astronomy and various fields, in the 54th issue of Ebuzziya Magazine will be researched. In addition, before going into the mentioned article, Salih Zeki Bey's life, works, History of Science and her aims in carrying out her studies on this subject will be mentioned.
