Art history is one of the humanities subjects ideally suited to innovative teaching methods that leverage new technologies. It can be taught through communicative practices based on multimedia, becoming an ideal arena for technology to enhance and stimulate learning. This article presents some considerations about currently available art history e-books, a digital technology that is set to become a standard format for textbooks at school. Together with interactive whiteboards), e-books are spearheading the introduction of new technologies in Italian schools. However there are still problems regarding the use of these modern educational tools, including teacher training, the costs to families, and the scepticism and prejudices of diehard supporters of the printed book and traditional teaching.
