Dünyadaki her dilin kendine has sesleri, ses yapısı, ses özellikleri vardır. Ayrıca kullanıldıkça ve geliştikçe her dilin bünyesinde bir takım ses olayları (ses düşmesi, ses türemesi, ses değişmesi, ses benzeşmesi vs.) oluşur. Dünyanın en köklü dillerinden olan Türk dili de geçmişten günümüze kendine has sesleri, ses yapısı ve özellikle de içinde barındırdığı çeşitli ses olaylarıyla dikkat çekmektedir. Türkçede ses olaylarının bolluğu ve çeşitliliği, öğretimde sınıflandırmayı zorunlu kılmaktadır. Şu ana kadar gerek dilbilgisi kitaplarında gerekse Türkçe/Türk Dili ders kitaplarında ses olayları genelde yüzeysel bilgilerle ve eş zamanlı-art zamanlı oluşları dikkate alınmadan aktarılmaktadır. Bu makale Türkçenin sesleri ve ses olayları üzerine farklı bir tasnif denemesi sunacaktır.
