Abstract:

This study covers the writer’s story of the “Hunger Artist” and sociological analyses on the ideas that the individual works about the relations with the modern society and the modern society with the individual and the influences of the capitalist system on the individual and society. The study concluded that Kafka, with this story, revealed the idea that the interests and needs of people in the capitalist system are constantly changing. In the story of Zira "The Hungry Artist" the interest in this art has been seen to decrease in a short time. This art is performed in the circus. Today, the last example of this is the circ show. In 2017, Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey, the most famous circ organization in the United States, closed. The main reason for the closure of this circus company is the change in the people's understanding of entertainment. Other circus organizations in various countries of the world are also expected to be closed. At the end of the study it was understood that Kafka had the idea that even the tendencies known as personal pleasures and pleasures in the capitalist system, as they are rapidly changing, cannot exceed being the fashion of the time.
