Abstract:

The German artist Joseph Beuys, who involves all people in the society through the artistic talents they have, is a multi-faceted artist who has studied graphics, paintings, sculptures, performance, video art and installation. Beuys, who adopts an art concept where the used art object is excluded, where the process gains value instead of the finished work, where man is directed to think and question, believes in the healing power of art. In the works of the artist, in addition to the presence of invisible materials such as sound and thought, the past extends to the mythical story, the goats and the oil are objects that have an important place. According to the myth, the oil and goats, which re-connect the artist in the periods in which he was imprisoned, will often appear to us in the works that the artist will perform in the future and will be one of the basic materials of Beuys' art. In the research carried out with the visual scan model, a literary scan of Beuys' art understanding and works was carried out. The research was limited to the works that Beuys used oil and goats, which are usually one of their preferred materials, and the views on the use of these materials. It is also included in the artistic life, art understanding and mythical story that the artist is believed to be a link in the choice of material. According to the research findings, the artist who uses oil and goat by carrying symbolic meanings has shown that these materials are used as a symbol of transformation, energy, isolation, will, commitment to life, social provision.
