Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to make Turkish adaptation the Writing Attitude Scale (WAS) that In order to measure writing anxiety developed by Marcia et al (1984). For this purpose was carried out the Validation of a Writing Attitude Scale and to examine its reliability and validity. Writing Attitude Scale (WAS) was first translated into Turkish and, equivalence analysis of forms English / Turkish language of the scale were carried out by the reading of three English teachers / lecturers. Then was used two hundred and seventy one (281) university students in The Erciyes, Dumlupınar, Mustafa Kemal and Karadeniz Technical Universities. The psychometric properties of the scale were investigated internal consistency, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and criterion-related validity methods. Exploratory factor analysis of the Turkish version of the scale was found to have 25 items and five sub-dimension. The Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found as .85 in this study. Principal components factor analysis, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) coefficient was .85. As a result of the analysis in the study Barlett Sphericity test was statistically significant (χ2 = 4.760, p <0.01). After varimax rotation values of factor loadings from .779 to .392. Confirmatory factor analyses, goodness of fit indices were within the boundaries of acceptable and good fit.The Turkish version of the Writing Attitude Scale (WAS) was found to be reliable and valid in this study. Writing Attitude Scale (WAS) that was made validity and reliability in this study can be utilized by researchers as a data collection instrument data on students' attitudes towards writing.
