Abstract The low sustained levels of fertility have characterized the reproductive landscape of the Cuban population. Contraception, abortion and the formation of couples, as close determinants, continue to play an essential role within the behavior of the population in this area, although with different influence in each case. It is a question of exposing the characteristics of the use of contraception, conjugated with the vision from the individuality, based on interviews carried out in investigations in the years 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2016. It is concluded that the processes around its use are as unstructured as the decision making itself to have children, but that the real use is constructed from the individuality.
