Two public bodies could ask a court to remove a mayor, who is an elected official, from his/her official title during his term of office: the central administration or the municipality council, which is the decisionmaking body. The decision is then made by the administrative courts. Additionally, in some specific conditions, especially when obvious illegalities, as defined by the law, have been observed regarding a mayor’s performance of responsibilities, the Ministry of Interior could remove a mayor from office without a court decision. This article analyzes the rules and regulations regarding the removal of a mayor from office and removal of title. The previous and current rules and procedures and the gaps that exist in them are also analyzed
