Erken İslam döneminde bir istihkâm şehri olarak kurulmuş olup günümüze sadece harabeleri intikal etmiş bulunan çok sayıda yerleşim vardır. Bunlar arasında bugün Suriye sınırları içinde bulunan Rahbe, Orta Çağ kaynaklarında adı sıkça telaffuz edilen önemli kale şehirlerden biridir. Rahbe, Fırat kenarına yerleşen stratejik konumu ve özellikle çift duvarla örülmüş korunaklı kalesiyle 9. asırda Müslümanlar eliyle kurulduğu ilk dönemlerden itibaren Irak’tan batıya yapılacak seferler için önemli bir istinat noktası teşkil ettiğinden birçok hükümdar tarafından kıskançlıkla istenen bir şehir olmuştur. 12. yüzyıldan itibaren Haçlıların 13. yüzyıldan sonra da Moğolların bölgeye gelmeleriyle bir kale-şehir sıfatıyla daha fazla önem kazanan Rahbe, bu yüzyıllarda yaşanan iktidar mücadeleleri neticesinde çok sayıda yerel yönetici arasında sıklıkla el değiştirmiştir. Osmanlı hâkimiyeti sonrası eski önemini yitiren şehir, günümüzde sadece kaleye ait harabeleri kalmış bir yerleşimdir. Bu makalede muhtelif Orta Çağ kaynakları ışığında Rahbe şehrinin kuruluşu, tarihi coğrafyası, siyasi, coğrafi, iktisadi, içtimai ve mimari durumuyla ilgili bilgiler verilmeye çalışılacaktır.
There are many settlements that have been established as a city of rescue in the early Islamic period, and to the present day have only been destroyed by the ruins. Among them, Rahbe, which is now within the Syrian borders, is one of the important castle cities that is often spoken in the Middle Ages sources. Rahbe, with its strategic location on the edge of the Euphrates and especially its protected castle with a double wall, has been a coveted city for many rulers since the early periods when the Muslims were established in the 9th century, it has been an important reference point for flights from Iraq to the west. From the 12th century to the 13th century. After the century, the Rahbe, which gained more importance with the arrival of the Mongols to the region as a castle-city, has often exchanged hands among many local rulers as a result of the power struggles that have occurred in these centuries. The city, which has lost its ancient importance after the Ottoman rule, is today a settlement that has left only the ruins of the castle. In this article, in light of various Middle Ages sources, we will try to provide information about the establishment of the city of Rahbe, its historical geography, political, geographical, economic, internal and architectural status.
