Abstract:

This study aims to identify the attitudes of the university youth who is studying sociology towards social gender roles and to study whether these attitudes are varied according to socio-cultural factors. The data obtained using the survey technique and the Social Gender Roles Attitude Scale (TCRTÖ) was evaluated through the SPSS program. The fundamental principles of functional theory have been taken into account in the creation of the theoretical framework of the research and in the phases of the interpretation of data. Students who participate in our study are largely made up of family members with a low socio-economic status. According to the results of our study on the role of equal sex and the role of male sex, the majority of participants adopted "Modern/equal" sex roles. A significant proportion of participants are opposed to positive discrimination against boys, violence against women in marriage, male domination in the family. According to research findings on the role of traditional gender, the role of gender in marriage and the role of female gender, a significant proportion of participants find that they accept traditional gender roles. The research finds that women have more attitudes towards equal (modern) gender roles than men and there is a significant difference between men and women in their attitudes towards equal gender roles. Today’s youth is concerned with the importance that the identification and evaluation of their attitudes towards the social gender roles of university students, which are the future of tomorrow, will keep the light to the future.
