Abstract:

This study aimed to reveal the metaphorical perceptions of teacher candidates about the concept of a paid teacher. This research has a qualitative method and the phenomenology model was used as the research model. The study group of the present research consisted of 107 female and 37 male pre-service teachers from Social Studies Teaching, Turkish Language Teaching, Primary Education Mathematics Teaching, Classroom Teaching, Preschool Teaching and Science Teaching 4th-grade teacher candidates studying at İnönü University in the 2021-2022 academic year. It consisted of 144 teacher candidates. While determining the study group of this research, criterion sampling and simple random sampling methods were used. The research data were collected through a semi-structured open-ended interview form. The content analysis (induction) technique was used in the analysis and interpretation of the data. With the data obtained from the metaphoric connotations in this research, 95 metaphors were reached. Among these metaphors, Slave (20) was the most frequently emphasized metaphor. It was concluded that there were metaphors of seasonal worker (5), subcontracted worker (3), worker (3), theft of labor (3) and Minimum wage (2). The dissatisfaction with the paid teaching practice was expressed by the pre-service teachers.
