Abstract:

The emergence of the disciplines on the stage of history as independent fields of science depends on the existence of more than one variable. The most important of these variables are concepts, resources and method. It is known that the basic parameters of the method are the concepts and the resources. While the trend area and dynamic structure of the concepts are more limited in terms of the disciplines, the situation changes when it comes to the resources. The main reason for this change is the difference in the number of resources. When the disciplines are compared in terms of conceptual and source, it is seen that the number of classical or modern sources is much higher than the concepts. This is the case for almost all the disciplines. The situation is the same for the History of Islamic Sects, which analyzes the history and current situation of the sects, which are movements of differentiation based on the politics and the belief. While this discipline has a limited number of unique concepts, it also hosts a large number of the sources from past to present. Both groups of these sources, which can be divided into two groups as classical and modern sources, are significant. It is also significant to analyze modern sources, which were shaped under the influence of classical sources to a certain extent but have their own unique characteristics, through different variables. Therefore, in our article, two works titled "History of Islamic Sects", written in the last hundred years with the same title but with a time difference of approximately fifty years between them, were analyzed. While analyzing the relevant works, a comparative method was followed based on variables such as concept, source, content and method. Thus, the change that the recent literature of the History of Islamic Sects has experienced, was tried to be determined through these two works.
