Abstract:

Village Institutes are educational institutions established on April 17, 1940, to train teachers for villages. Since the students were given agriculture and construction rather than culture lessons in the institutes, it caused some circles to regard students as workers. While the institutes were expected to relieve the Turkish villagers, mistakes made during the implementation phase accelerated the closing process. In this study, the misapplications in Village Institutes were discussed in Orkun Magazine. Orkun Magazine is the magazine of Turkish Nationalists and has been published continuously for 68 weeks from 1950 to 1952. The magazine tried to show that the Turkish Nationalists came together and aimed to revive the national consciousness by reminding the public about the misapplications made during the Single Party period. The biggest claim of the magazine; During the Single Party period, the National Chief İsmet İnönü, the Minister of National Education Hasan Ali Yücel and the General Manager of Primary Education İsmail Hakkı Tonguç jointly implemented the Village Institutes project in order to weaken the Turkish culture. In the magazine, under the pseudonym Süleyman Kadıoğlu, under the title of "Village Institutes Deadlock", the objectives of the Village Institutes were tried to be put forward. In this study, the actual establishment goals and objectives of the Village Institutes were discussed and the evaluations of Orkun Magazine on Village Institutes were included.
