Objective: Septoplasty is a one of the most frequently performed operation in ear-nose-throat department. On the one hand, it effectively corrects the complaint of nasal congestion, on the other hand, it has the potential to affect voice and nasal resonance. In this study we aimed to investigate the influence of septoplasty on voice and nasal resonance. Material and Methods: Fifty patients who diagnosed with nasal septum deviation and scheduled for septoplasty and 32 healthy control were enrolled to study. Acoustic voice analysis and nasal resonance analysis were performed control individuals and patients who underwent septoplasty before and 3 months after surgery by Multi Dimensional Voice Program and nasometer. Results: No statistically significant difference were found between preoperative and postoperative voice parameters of study group except smoothed amplitude perturbation quotient values (p<0.001). Further no significant difference were found between study and control groups for all voice parameters. In the comparison of nasalance values, preoperative scores were significantly increased in the postoperative third month and the postoperative nasalance values had almost reached to control group levels (p<0.01). Conclusion: We demonstrated that septoplasty procedure leads a significant increment on nasal resonance scores, however has minor effect on voice parameters. These findings are useful in the preoperative information of the patients especially whom were having queries about the surgeries effect on voice parameters and nasality.
