Purpose: In this study, the presence of Leptodemus minutus Jakovlev (Hemiptera) in the Hatay province, which has been studied to cause direct damage by feeding on cotton plants. Method and findings: The work material was created from the L. minutus Jakovlev samples collected from Hatay in 2019. Insect samples were made from cotton. In the study, samples were prepared for the re-identification of species, the body parts with the taxonomic importance of the species being studied were photographed. Also in Turkey and in the world, the distribution data of species, guest plants and the collection location information for each of the species being studied has been given. The important morphological characteristics of the species have been studied. Common Review: Cotton is one of the leading fiber plants that are cultivated today. It is cultivated commercially in more than 50 countries in the Ilian and tropical regions. There are many harmful substances that are known to cause significant economic damage in cotton production. A new cotton harmful L. minutus, which has caused damage in cotton production in recent years, has emerged. This harmful was first from cotton fields in Hatay in 2019. The importance and effect of the study: This harmful Oxycareninae (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae) belongs to the subfamily and, by colonizing in high amounts in young fries, intense absorption on the leaves, causes leaves to swallow and deform. The fight against harmful is difficult due to the cause of high population and there is not enough work on harmful for the purposes of integrated fighting. This study shows the need for detailed study on the biology and control of harmful substances in cotton production areas.

The pest has been reported first time in cotton production areas of Hatay province of Turkey in 2019. Significance and Impact of the Study: This pest causes damage on young seedlings by colonizing in high numbers and feeds by inserting its stylets into the leaves and stems causing deformation of the leaves and wilting. Pest control is difficult due to the high population and there are not enough studies on integrated pest control. This study clearly shows that there is a need for a detailed study on the biology and control of the pest at cotton-cultivated areas.
