XIX. yüzyılda gerçekleşen en önemli olaylardan biri olan 93 Harbi, 1877-1878 yılları arasında Çarlık Rusya’nın siyasi çıkarları sonucu meydana gelmiştir. Osmanlı Devleti, artan Rus tehdidi nedeniyle orduyu modernize etme faaliyetine girişmiştir. Avrupa ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde gelişen teknolojik gelişmeleri yakından takip eden Osmanlı, dönemin en modern ve kaliteli silahını temin etmek için büyük çaba göstermiştir. Böylece Osmanlı, dış tehlikelere karşı kendini korumak adına 93 Harbi’nde silah ithalatına ağırlık vermiş ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri başat olmak üzere, İngiltere ve Almanya gibi Avrupa ülkelerinden yeni silahlar satın almıştır. Osmanlı ile Amerika Birleşik Devletleri arasında silah ticareti Amerikan Savaşı’ndan sonra başlamış ve II. Abdülhamid döneminde zirveye ulaşmıştır. Çalışmamızda Osmanlı’nın ilk kez büyük bir oranda toprak kaybetmesine ve yıkılma dönemine girmesine neden olan 93 Harbi’nde kullandığı silah ve mühimmatları nasıl temin ettiğinden bahsedilmiştir. Bu doğrultuda Osmanlı ile Amerika Birleşik Devletleri arasında gerçekleşen silah ithalatı ve Amerikan silah şirketleri ile yaşanan sıkıntılar ele alınmıştır.
The War of 93, one of the most important events of the 19th century, took place between 1877 and 1878 as a result of Russia's political interests. The Ottoman Empire started to modernize the army due to the increasing Russian threat. The Ottoman Empire, which closely followed the technological developments in Europe and America, made great efforts to procure the most modern and highest quality weapons of the period. For this purpose, Ottoman Empire imported weapons and ammunition from different countries. America is one of the countries from which the Ottoman Empire supplied weapons and ammunition in the War of 93. The arms trade between the Ottoman Empire and America started after the American Civil War and reached its peak during the reign of Abdülhamid II. Our study mentions how the Ottoman Empire obtained the weapons and ammunition used by the Ottoman Empire during the 93 War, which caused the Ottomans to lose a large amount of land for the first time and enter the period of collapse. Accordingly, the arms imports between the Ottomans and America and the experiences with the American arms companies were discussed.
