As in all over the world, wrong and unnecessary drug use in our country is a serious problem affecting public health. This descriptive study was conducted to determine the rational drug use among elderly and nursing students in nursing homes and to evaluate rational drug use among generations. A total of 190 individuals were included in the study. In order to carry out the research, oral and written consent was obtained from the ethics committee and institution permission, the elderly and young people participating in the study. In the statistical evaluation of the data, the Turcosa statistical package program was used. 80% of the participants were 18-24 years old, 15.2% were 55 years old and over. In addition, 51.1% of patients use a drug that is unfinished at home and 47.9% do not consult with any health personnel while taking repeated drugs. There was no significant difference between generations in terms of what is to be done with the leftover medicines, what is to be considered when using leftover medicines at home, to buy medicines without patients, to use drugs with advice from someone other than healthcare personnel, and to offer the medicine that is good for someone else (p> 0.05). It has been found that elderly people display more positive behaviors than younger people in all matters, except antibiotic use, such as the number of leftover pillboxes at home, who to get advice from when using leftover drugs, and how to use medicine, and the difference between them has been found statistically significant.
