Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the frequency of sexual dysfunction between mediolateral epizotomy and the women who are giving birth to the women who are giving birth without the epizotomy. Method: This prospective study included a total of 179 women who were born in a third stage center. Patients were divided into two groups as women who had a mediolateral episiotomy and had a vaginal birth without it. The groups were compared in terms of age, body mass index, educational status, hospital stay for birth and the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (ASEX). Results: Mediolateral episiotomy was found associated with sexual dysfunction in patients with birth and time of birth (respectively p<0,001 and p=0,01). However, the time spent for birth is not an independent factor in terms of sexual dysfunction. However, the epizotomy increases the risk of sexual dysfunction by 2.5 times. (probability ratio: 2.35, confidence range: 1.45-3.83, p=0,001). In the assessment of the ASEX subscores based on the epizytomic presence, the rates of epizytomic patients were significantly higher in sexual impulse, orgasm achievement and orgasm satisfaction (p<0,001 for the whole). There is also no effect on sexual stimulation and lubrication in epizotomial preparations. The result: According to the results of our study, mediolateral episiotomy during vaginal birth increases the frequency of sexual dysfunction in postpartum women.
