The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a 12 week aerobic exercise program on some physical fitness parameters in middle aged and menopausal women who were obese and sedentary. During the 12 weeks, both groups participated in a jog-walk exercise program with the duration of 30 min. 3 times per week. The intensity of the exercise was %70 that was determined by Karvonen method. Before and after the training measurements of body weight, body mass index, rest pulse, blood pressure, vertical jump, flexibility, aerobic power and anaerobic power were done. Mean age and height of groups were determined as 35,42±2,83 years and 155,12±5,73 cm. for middle aged group (n=49) and 53,78±3,78 years and 154,15±4,78 cm for menopausal women (n=33). The results indicated that there was a significant decrease in body weight, body mass index and rest pulse values of both groups (p<.05), but a significant increase in vertical jump, power and flexbility values. There was a significiant increase in anaerobic power but a significiant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressures in menopausal women only. In conclusion it has been observed that a 12-week aerobic exercise program for middle aged and menopausol women resulted in similar positive changes in physical fitness parameters while causing favorable changer in blood pressures mobtly in favor of menopausal women
