Abstract:

In the 20th century, as industrialization was accelerated by scientific knowledge, all the rules of art changed, and modern artists abandoned the vicious circle of limiting themselves to their own fields. Instead, they started to make use of new techniques and materials, which resulted in more original, creative, strong and rich sense of self-expression and artists expanded their horizons. Under these circumstances, artists became more free and innovative in terms of expressing themselves, from which an interdisciplinary approach emerged. Thanks to its flexibility in allowing artists to make use of unique production techniques, producing either superficial or three dimensional artwork, and due to its proximity to human nature and the aspect of being a ‘living’ art which encapsules a continuum within themselves, ceramic became the most popular material in modern arts. Its plasticity, and the fact that the outcome depends on the process of firing the artwork in kilns, added with the excitement which arises from waiting for the final product makes this material even more attractive and special. Interdisciplinary art approach has been adopted by several artists in our country and Turkish art has been enriched with different varieties of artwork which exceeded the limitations of materials.
