Recreational activities help the individual to establish a reconciled, adaptable and balanced relationship with himself or herself, with other people and with the community. Recreational activities are of highly importance about the fact that the individuals understand other people and empathize with them. In the process of socialization which continues throughout the life of the individual, recreational activities that a person carries out with the family and the immediate environment are very important in respect of self-knowledge and self-awareness of the individual. Accordingly, the aim of the study is to determine the effect of socializing through recreational activities on the individual's empathic tendency. In addition to this aim, another aim of the study is to analyze whether there is a meaningful difference between demographic variables and empathic tendencies of individuals. In this context, the relations between the variables were tested using the data of the questionnaire applied on the students of Necmettin Erbakan University (n=256) and hypotheses revealed theoretically were checked. Moreover, in the analysis part of the study, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to measure the relationship and the effect level between descriptive statistics, difference tests, the socialization variable through recreational activities and the empathic tendency variable. As a result of the research, it was determined that there is a positive, in the force of 0.456, and meaningful (p=0,000) relationship between the socialization variable through recreational activities and the empathic tendency of the individual. Besides, as a consequence of the regression analysis applied, it was inferred that socialization through recreational activities has a meaningful and directly (β=,456; p=0,000) impact on the empathic tendency of the individual. In this respect, the socialization of individuals thorough recreational activities, the contact they made with other people and the fact that it affect their empathic tendencies are among the important findings of the research.
