Türkiye’de modernleşme sürecinin aile kurumuna yansımaları sonucunda, ailenin yapısında ve işlevlerinde değişimler söz konusu olmuştur. Geniş aile yapısı, evliliklerin bireysel tercihlere göre yapıldığı ve yeni evli çiftin ayrı bir evde yaşam sürdüğü çekirdek aile yapısına dönüşmüştür. Sanayileşme, kentleşme ve kadınların işgücüne artan katılımları sonucunda aile içi roller de değişmeye başlamıştır. Geleneksellikten modernliğe geçerken annelik, babalık, çocukluk rolleri yeniden tanımlanmıştır. Babanın artık yalnızca evin geçimini sağlayan kişi değil çocuğun gelişiminde önemli yer tutan kişi olduğu vurgulanmaya başlanmıştır. Bu çalışma literatür tarama yöntemiyle Türkiye’de modernleşme sürecinde aile kurumunun değişimini toplumsal cinsiyet ve babalık odağında incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada öncelikle toplumsal cinsiyet kavramına ve toplumsallaşma sürecinde erkeklik kimliğinin oluşumuna değinilmiştir. Bir erkeklik deneyimi olarak babalık, babalığın tarihsel süreçte değişimi, çocukluk rolü ve değişiminin babanın ailedeki yeri ve önemine etkisi, evlilik ve eş seçiminde meydana gelen değişim ve eşle olan ilişkinin babalığa olan etkisi, babalığın anneler ve babalar tarafından nasıl anlamlandırıldığı, geleneksel babalık ve yeni babalık arasındaki farklılıklar ve benzerlikler, farklı erkeklikler ve farklı babalıklar arasındaki bağlantılar, babaların kendi babalarından edindikleri babalık rolleri ve baba katılımını etkileyen faktörler üzerinde durulmuştur. Türkiye’de babalıkla ilgili gerçekleştirilen çalışmaların bulgularına yer verilerek makale sonlandırılmıştır.
As a result of reflections of the modernization process on the family institution in Turkey, there have been changes in the structure and functions of the family. The extended family structure has turned into a nuclear family structure where marriages are made according to individual preferences and the newly married couple lives in a separate house. As a result of industrialization, urbanization and the increasing participation of women in the workforce, domestic roles have also begun to change. The roles of motherhood, fatherhood and childhood have been redefined while transitioning from tradition to modernity. It has started to be emphasized that the father is not only the person who provides the livelihood of the house, but also the person who has an important place in the development of the child. This study aims to examine the change in the family institution in the modernization process in Turkey with the focus of gender and fatherhood by using the literature review method. In this study, first of all, the concept of gender and the formation of masculinity identity in the socialization process are mentioned. Fatherhood as a masculinity experience, the historical change of fatherhood, the role of childhood and the effect of the father’s place and importance in the family, the change in the choice of marriage and spouse on paternity, how fatherhood is interpreted by mothers and fathers, traditional fatherhood and new fatherhood, the differences and similarities between genders, the connections between different masculinities and different fatherhoods, the paternity roles that fathers have acquired from their own fathers, and the factors affecting father involvement are emphasized. The article was concluded by giving place to the findings of studies on fatherhood in Turkey.
