Amaç: Spor; beden, zihin ve ruh gelişimine hizmet eden bireysel ya da takım halinde gerçekleştirilebilen ve belirli kurallara tabi olan eylem olarak tanımlanabilmektedir. Spor; bireyi performans sergilemeye, rekabete, dayanışmaya, takımdaşlığa, başarıya yöneltmekte ve kişisel gelişime katkıda bulunmaktadır. Sporun tarihsel gelişimi, uygarlık tarihine koşut bir seyir izlemektedir. Öyle ki modern sporun gelişimini, kapitalizmin gelişimi üzerinden çözümlemek mümkündür. Bu paralelde sporun ilk ortaya çıkışı, insanın kendi varlığını keşfetmesi ve doğayla mücadeleye girmesi ile ilişkilendirilendirilebilmektedir. Spor, aynı zamanda kültürel bir eylemdir. Huizinga’nın oyun oynayan insanı simgeleyen ‘homo ludens’ kavramı ile işaret ettiği gibi, yeryüzünde insana ait her şeyin başlangıcının oyun olduğuna dikkat çekmek ve ‘önce oyun vardı’ saptamasını yapmak mümkündür. Huizinga’ya göre kurgusal olduğu bilinen ve gündelik hayatın dışında yer alan, bununla birlikte oyuncuyu da tamamen içine çeken, gönüllü ve özgür bir eylem olan oyun; tarih boyunca, hayatın her alanında kültürün temel öğesi olarak varlığını sürdürmüştür. Oyunun kültürle olan bağından ve oyunun evvel ezel niteliğinden hareket eden bu çalışma; spor olgusunun Türkçedeki yer ve önemini atasözleri ve deyimler üzerinden araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Yöntem: Nitel desende oluşturulan çalışma, Türk Dil Kurumu Atasözleri ve Deyimler Sözlüğü’nü evren kabul ederek tasarlanmış ve içerik analizi yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamında Türkçede bulunan spor olgusu ile ilgili atasözleri ve deyimler tespit edilmiş ve oluşturulan kategoriler uyarınca değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuç kısmında ise elde edilen bulgular yorumlanmış ve gelecek araştırmalara yönelik öneriler sunulmuştur. Özgünlük: Çalışmada ulaşılan en temel sonuç, Türkçede bulunan deyimlerde spor olgusunun oldukça önemli bir yer arz etmesidir.
Purpose: The sport can be defined as the action, which can be performed individually or as a team and subject to certain rules, that serves the development of body, mind, and soul. Sport leads the individual to performance, competition, solidarity, teamwork, and success meanwhile contributes to personal development. The historical development of sports follows a course parallel to the history of civilization. It is possible to analyze the development of modern sport through the development of capitalism. In this parallel, the first appearance of sport can be associated with the discovery of one's own existence and the struggle against nature. Sport is also a cultural act. As Huizinga points out with the concept of ‘homo ludens’ it is possible to draw attention to the fact that the beginning of everything pertaining to humans is the game. According to Huizinga, the game that is known to be fictional and out of everyday life, which is also a voluntary and free action that completely engages the player; throughout history, it has survived as a fundamental element of culture in every aspect of life. This study is based on the connection of the game with the culture and existence of the game from all eternity, aims to investigate the place and importance of sports phenomenon in Turkish by means of proverbs and idioms. Method: The study is performed with qualitative design, is designed by adopting the Turkish Language Association Proverbs and Idioms Dictionary as a universe and carried out with the content analysis method. Findings: Proverbs and idioms related to the sports phenomenon in the Turkish language determined and evaluated according to the categories. In the conclusion part of the study, findings interpreted and suggestions for future studies presented. Originality: The main conclusion reached in the study is that the phenomenon of sports has a very important place in idioms in Turkish language.
