Abstract:

The Ottoman Modernization Period; II. Mahmoud II, who began with the opening of the West in music, Mahmoud II; It is a process that continues until the period of Abdülhamit. The modernization efforts of music made during this period were put forward with the idea of not leaving behind the West. Then, in various modernization steps carried out in the Republican period, interventions were made in the same way as the state. The objective of this study is to describe the music reforms carried out within this period of cultural change and transformation, which spread to the century; the musical approaches in the Ottoman Period; the relationship between art, politics and modernization; the music reforms and music politics carried out in the nation-state process of the Republic Period, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's approach to Turkish music and the music reforms made between 1924-1950; the change in Turkish music in connection with the statist tradition, the features and transformation of folk music from the Middle Asia to Anatolia, and to be able to reveal these points with their positive and negative consequences. This study performed is important in terms of explaining the interferences in art in general and music in private by different ideologies along with modernization movements in line with various political purposes, the purposes and qualifications of interferences occurred in each period, the impacts of innovations made on public, structural features of Turkish music from the first stage of cultural transformation to the last in different periods and the change in Turkish music, and to be able to reveal these points with their positive and negative consequences. The study will be performed in screening model and the current situation will try to be described.
