OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the shear bond strengths of composite samples polymerized with halogen and LED light source when they were bonded to enamel of primary teeth with total-etch and self-etch bonding systems. METHODS: In the study, a total-etch bonding system a self-etch bonding system and a composite resin material were used. Samples bonded to enamel of primary molar teeth were polymerized with halogen and LED light sources and their shear bond strengths were measured with an universal test device. RESULTS: The shear bond strength values of composite resin samples bonded to primary teeth’s enamel with the total-etch bonding system were found higher than the shear bond strength values of composite samples bonded to primary teeth’s enamel with self-etch bonding system statistically. There was no statistical difference between shear bond strength values according to light sources. “Adhesive” fracture type was mostly found in both samples bonded with total-etch and self-etch bonding systems. CONCLUSION: In this study, both bonding systems and both light sources were found successful to get enough shear bond strength values to compare the chewing forces. Furthermore, it was thought that, self-etch bonding system and LED light source may be used to provide a shorter clinical work time for composite restorations applied to primary teeth and also, they may be preferred for very young children and handicapped child, adult or geriatric patients
