INTRODUCTION: The research was conducted to determine the effect of postpartum development of newborn perception and maternal attachment training provided to primiparous mother. METHODS: The research was conducted between March 2009-February 2011 with the semi-experimental design with a control group. The population of the research, a family health center in Erzurum registered primipar which has created mothers in the postpartum period. The population of the research consisted of primipar mothers postpartum period. The sample of the study with a randomized sampling method determined by power analysis selected 55 control has a total of 110 mothers, including 55 in the experimental group. Personal information form for the collection of data and descriptive characteristics of the mother Newborn Perception and Maternal Attachment Scale was used. The resulting data, chi-square test, independent samples t test was used for analysis of variance for repeated measures. RESULTS: When the newborn perceptions of mothers were compared, %92.7 of the mothers in the education group perceived their babies positively whereas %85.5 of the mothers in the control group perceived positively but the difference between education and control group was not found statically significant (p>0.05). When the maternal attachment level of the mothers in both groups was analyzed, the level of the mothers in education groups was find high and the difference between education and control group was found statically significant (p<0.001, p<0.05) DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The training given to primipar mother was determined to increase the confidence level of the mother.
