Bîrûnî Orta Çağ’da yaşamış bir bilim insanıdır. Bilim dünyasına birçok alanda katkı sağladığı bilinen Bîrûnî’nin coğrafya alanında da derin bir bilgisinin olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu bilim, insanlığın ortaya çıkışından itibaren gelişme göstermiş zamanla kendi içerisinde alt kollara ayrılmıştır. Bu kollardan biri de jeomorfolojidir. Jeomorfoloji kısaca yer şekillerini inceleyen bilim dalıdır. Bu çalışmada da Bîrûnî’nin jeomorfoloji ile ilgili eserlerinde verdiği bilgiler bir örneklem çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın yöntemi doküman analizidir. Çalışmada Bîrûnî’nin günümüze kadar ulaşan 23 eseri içerisinden beş tanesi analiz edilmiştir. Analiz birimlerinin belirlenmesi aşamasında jeomorfolojiye ait kavramlar listelenmiştir. İçerik analizi ile eserler taranmış ve ilgili kavramlar listelenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler sınıflandırılmış ve frekans tabloları oluşturulmuştur. Yapılan analizler ile deprem, katman, alüvyon, dağ, ova, çöl, ada gibi yerin şekli ile ilgili hangi kavramların üzerinde nasıl durduğu, bunlara kaç kez değindiği ve bu kavramların özel isimlerinin dünya üzerinde kapladığı coğrafi alan sınırları yapılan analizler ile ortaya konulmuştur. Toplanan veriler sonucunda Bîrûnî jeomorfoloji kavramlarına ve yeryüzünde bulunan bu kavramların özel isimlerine sıkça değindiği görülmüştür. Örnek olarak bu beş eserinde ilgili kavramlardan en sık, 155 dağ ismine 501 kez yer vermiştir. Bu dağ kavramları üzerine verdiği en önemli bilgilerden biri Alp-Himalaya dağ kuşağının yapısı ve onun geçtiği yer isimleridir. Ayrıca dış kuvvetlerin oluşturduğu körfez, haliç vb. yer şekillerinin oluşum süreçlerine değinmiştir. Daha birçok yer şekli ile ilgili coğrafi kavramlara yer veren Bîrûnî Arap yarımadası ve Afrika kıtası içlerindeki çöllerin isimlerinden de bahsetmektedir. Taranan eserlerde önemli derecede Jeomorfoloji alanı ile ilgili bilgi bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir. Günümüzde coğrafya ve alt alanlarının anlaşılması, üzerinde çalışmalar yapılması için geçmişinin iyi bilinmesi gerekmektedir. Bu nedenle özellikle jeomorfoloji alanında geriye dönük yapılacak çalışmalarda Bîrûnî’nin eserleri kaynak olarak incelenmelidir.

This science has been divided into the lower hands within itself with the time it has evolved since the emergence of mankind. One of these arms is geomorphology. Geomorphology is a science that explores the forms of the earth. In this study, the information provided by the Geomorfology in its works was examined in the framework of an example. The method of study is document analysis. In the study, five of the 23 works of Bîrûnî have been analyzed to date. In the phase of determination of the analysis units, the concepts of geomorphology are listed. Content analysis and works are scaned and related concepts listed. The obtained data is classified and the frequency tables are created. The analyses made with the analysis of what concepts related to the shape of the land, such as earthquake, layer, alivium, mountain, oval, desert, island, and how many times they were referred to and the geographical boundaries in which the specific names of these concepts cover the earth. As a result of the data collected, it has been seen that the concepts of Bîrûnî geomorfology and the special names of these concepts found on earth are frequently referred to. For example, the most common of these five works is 155 mountains named 501 times. One of the most important information he gives about these mountain concepts is the structure of the Alp-Himalayan mountain generation and the place names it passes through. Also the Gulf, Gulf, etc. which is formed by the external forces. The forms of the forms of the forms. He also referred to the names of the deserts within the Arab Peninsula and the African continent, which include many geographical concepts related to the land shape. In the works of Taranan there is significant information about the field of geomorfology. Therefore, especially in the field of geomorphology, the works of Bîrûnî should be studied as a source.
