Abstract:

The aim of the study is to reveal the level of predicting the end-of-year achievement scores of the related courses in secondary school on the raw scores of the Secondary Education Institutions Central Examination (OKMS) subtests. In the study, students’ course year end achievement scores in Turkish, mathematics, science, history, foreign language and religion course year-end achievement scores of 5th- 8th grades of were considered as independent variables, and OKMS subtest raw scores were considered as dependent variables. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to answer the research questions. The study group consists of 3357 students who attended OKMS in 8th grade and 24 secondary schools in 17 different districts of Bursa province in 2018. According to the results obtained, it was found that the best variables which predict OKMS Turkish, mathematics and history subtests are the 8th, 5th, 7th and 6th grade end-of-year achievement scores of the relevant courses, the best variables that predict OKMS science subtest are the 8th, 6th, 5th and 7th grade science end-of-year achievement scores, the best variables that predict OKMS foreign language subtest are the 8th, 7th and 6th grade foreign language end-of-year achievement scores, and the best variables that predict OKMS religion subtest are the 8th, 5th and 7th grade religion end-of -year achievement scores. As a result of the survey, it was obtained that the variables of the related courses explain 60.4% of the variance in the OKMS Turkish subtest scores, 39.3% of OKMS mathematics subtest scores, 61.1% of OKMS science subtest scores, 53.4% of OKMS History subtest scores, 65.3% of OKMS foreign language subtest scores, and 52.3% of OKMS religion subtest scores.
