Summary: Due to the increasing urbanization movements in Kars, the need for recreational areas of the people is also increasing. In this study, the recreational demands and trends of the people in the city centre of Kars were tried to be determined by an survey and evaluated by the x2 test. According to the survey, 39% of the city population participated in recreational activities in closed spaces outside the home, the variety of activities carried out varied according to the occupational status but did not depend on the educational status. Again, 90% of the city population find the city’s green spaces and sports facilities insufficient, while 87% say children’s playgrounds are far from meeting their needs as a number and capacity. The result of this study has been found that the existing recreational units in Kars city center are insufficient in terms of facilities and operations, they cannot meet the demands of the public. In this study, the recreational demands and trends of the people living in the center were determined by using questionnaire method. The data obtained from the questionnaires were evaluated with the aid of the x2 test. According to the results, it was determined that the 39% of the people joined the recreational activities varied held in closed places outside the home; the diversity of the activities varied depending on profession as independent on educational level. The 90% of the people thought that the green spaces and sports fields in the city center was not enough, as the 87% noted that children play area did not meet the requirement in quantity and capacity. In conclusion, it was determined that the available recreational units in the city center of Kars were not sufficient in terms of installation and management.
