Abstract:

Despite the 44 Turkish films that entered the show in 2008, it met with 223 foreign film viewers. Turkish films were viewed by 20 million 276 thousand 406 people, while foreign films were viewed by 15 million 936 thousand 426 people. The total revenue of Turkish films also reached 153 million 872 thousand 211 YTL while foreign films earned 134 million 737 thousand 646 YTL. In addition to sales revenues; advertisements given to the salons, DVDs, VCDs, film music albums sales, television-selling show rights and other revenues, the economic size of the Turkish cinema sector is estimated to be 400 million YTL for 2008. Turkish Films, which in 1995 could share less than 1% of the total audience, in 2006 for the first time exceeded 50% and reached 51%, the share of the local film audience in 2007 dropped to 38%, but in 2008 it broke a new record with 60%. In 2018, 180 indigenous and 257 foreign films entered the view and the number of films entered the view reached 437 films.  The total number of viewers in 2018 was 70.408.244, with the number of indigenous film viewers increased by 11% with 44.616.187. The total yield has also increased by 4% compared to last year and reached 896 million 780 thousand TL. With the appearance of films on private television in the 1990s, the classical indigenous cinema system in Turkey disappeared. But with the 2000s, the number of viewers has regained the trend. The number of cinema viewers in Turkey in 1999 exceeded 20 million, in 2018 exceeded 70 million and in 2018 approached the 1 billion lira limit. In this development in the Turkish cinema, the main factor is the demand seen by the indigenous films that are supported by the television stars, while the increase in economic development and the change in the physical structures of the cinema halls, the increase in the quality of service and the transformation of their classical functions in a culture, entertainment and shopping center has been other factors. The aim of this study is to make conclusions about the distance that the Turkish film industry will be able to double in the next decade by revealing the development of the last decade that will re-grow after the year 2000.
