Özet:

Hydroelectric power plant investments that are considered as a renewable energy source has gained pace over the last years in Turkey. There are many effects on the natural and social environment during the construction and operation of the power plants. Within the framework of legal procedures, it is possible for the plants established in accordance with the cultural and environmental structure of the region to contribute to the tourism and energy needs of the region. Initiatives to meet energy needs should not prevent the sustainability of the environment. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of hydroelectric power plants (HEPP) on tourism and to propose solutions. The effects of HEPPs on tourism were investigated by qualitative research approach and case study. The data were collected in January 2019 in Uzungöl Solaklı Valley using the interview technique and descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. Among the most important results of the study, the view that consecutive HEPPs harm the environment and tourism especially on the same river comes to the fore. Participants emphasized that good HEPP practices (environmentally sensitive) in the world are taken as an example to prevent Uzungöl tourism from being harmed by HEPPs. It is recommended that all measures be taken and supervised in order to keep the number of HEPP limited and not harm the habitat during its establishment and operation. The results of the study are thought to contribute to the sustainability of tourism and energy resources.
