Abstract:

The War of Independence (1919-1922), which constituted the first phase of the Turkish Revolution, is the first anti-imperialist, national struggle won in the 20th century. In this struggle, all Anatolia, which was unjustly occupied, was liberated from the invaders, and with the great victory, Western Anatolia was cleared of the Greek army. The evacuation of the occupied Istanbul and the Straits region and Eastern Thrace was the last step. This result was achieved with the Mudanya Armistice signed between the parties gathered at the Mudanya Conference and described as a diplomatic success document for the Turkish side. The prominent figures of this conference were İsmet (İnönü) Pasha as the head of the Turkish delegation and General Harington as the head of the British delegation. In this article, before the Mudanya Armistice, it was tried to explain how the tense wait between the Turkish side and the Allied Powers, especially England, and a new war crisis in Çanakkale was managed and how it was concluded. Following the signing of the Mudanya Armistice, it is aimed to contribute to the information revealed by the studies done so far on the situation of the Greek troops, Greek and Armenian people, and the Turkish-Muslim prisoners who evacuated Thrace, with new archive documents. For this purpose; It has been examined how a new hot war, which may be experienced between the Turkish and British forces that came face to face in the Dardanelles and Straits region, was eliminated diplomatically. The period covered covers a period of 3 months (September-November 1922).
