Introduction: Dorsogluteal site in application of intramuscular injection is often a site. It is suggested that ventrogluteal site using as alternative to site because dorsogluteal site caused injection sciatic nerve. Aim: This research was carried out with the aim of determining the level of knowledge of nurses about injection administration to ventrogluteal site. Methods: A total of 283 nurses who work in intensive care units, emergency rooms and wards of three state, private and university hospitals in Ankara province consisted the study sample of this descriptive study. It is collected data in search which nursing indentify relating data form and VG site relating containing information proposition. This form has been prepared with 5 specialists’ opinion. Percentage calculations, mean values (minimum, maximum), Kruskal Wallis Test, Mann Whitney U Test were used for assessment of data. Results: As the result of the study, 85.9% of the nurses were detected to use dorsogluteal site mostly and 63.3% were detected to never use ventrogluteal site. Mean knowledge score of the nurses was found moderate (13.1 ± 3.7) and the difference between knowing to detect intramuscular injection site in ventrogluteal site and administration ventrogluteal site for intramuscular injection was found statistically significant (p < 0.05). The difference between the hospital that the nurses work, education status, clinic that the nurses work, and mean knowledge scores was detected not to be significant (p > .05). Conclusion: It was detected that level of knowledge about ventrogluteal site for intramuscular injection was not sufficient and in-service training was recommended about this subject.
