Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine Anatolian Tales in terms of root values specified in the MoNE (2019) Turkish Language Curriculum. In the study, which sets an example for qualitative research, 30 tales in the sets prepared for preschool and primary school first and second grade students were included in the study within the scope of Anatolian Tales Project. The study data were collected through document review and they were subjected to content analysis by using the root value checklist. As a result, it was found out that honesty occurs in the highest number of tales for preschoolers, and respect emerges in the second highest number of tales. In the case of primary school set, root values of responsibility and benevolence appear in the most tales, followed by justice and honesty with an equal emphasis on each. However, none of the tales was seen to include patriotism among the root values. The findings are presented along with examples pointing at the target root values. Finally, recommendations are made based on the results to expand the literature.
