A key aspect, that has been the subject of intense dialogue and numerous meetings between the representatives of the European Union and of the Russian Federation, has now come to a crucial point which would decide the future partnership between these two world major geopolitical entities. The conflict in Ukraine has created a gap between the relations amongst the European Union and the Russian Federation, with one part supporting the Ukrainian state as a whole and the other part supporting the pro-Russian part of the population. Knowing the fact that the Russian Federation has used its considerable gas and oil resources as a mean of persuasion and constraint when developing its foreign policy agenda, this article comes to approach the perspective of the European energetic security from the point of view of the present situation in Ukraine and the sanctions that the representatives of the European Union and the United States of America imposed to the Russian side and whether the Russian Federation would maintain its energy partnership with the European part or if it would decide to redirect its natural gas and oil supplies towards other states.
