Abstract:

The issue of the Philistine after the First World War and the Turkey's turn (1920-1923)

Abstract:

This article, in light of some Turkish archive documents, aims to analyze the Palestinian policy of the Great National Assembly of Turkey, which was established in Ankara after the official occupation of Istanbul by the opposition states. These archive documents show that the Turks – both the Government of Istanbul and the Government of Ankara – defended the right of Palestinian Arabs to self-determination. However, the Arabs were concerned about the Jews’ contacts with the Turks in Ankara and Paris, and then they visited Istanbul and Ankara. At these visits, the Arabs were pleased to see that the Turkish self-determination views on Palestine did not change. After the Lozan Conference, the Turks continued their verbal/retorical support to the Arabs on the issue of Palestine, and this support was made without interference with inter-Arab political issues. It was preserved until the end of the World War. This has made Palestinian Arabs satisfied.
