CHAPTER XXII Consumer protection is to be achieved in the context of the common market rules by means of legislation putting into effect a continuing action programme. The programme commenced in 1975 summarized the consumer interests in terms of five basic rights to be implemented by Community legislation, i.e. the right to protection of health and safety; protection of legal and economic interests; the right of redress; the right of information and representation.
