Abstract:

This study was carried out in order to reveal the reasons for early marriage, opinions and experiences of women who migrated from Syria to Turkey and live in Mardin province. In our research, the phenomenological approach, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. Data were collected using a socio-demographic information form and a semi-structured interview form. With this method, in-depth individual interviews were conducted with 13 participants who were married before the age of 18. The data were evaluated by content analysis method. It was determined that the participants got married between the ages of 13 and 18, all of them were younger than their spouses and the marriage process continued. Syrian migrant women are married before the age of 18 for different reasons such as economic, socio-cultural acceptance, and multi-childhood, and they have to struggle with the difficulties, responsibilities and problems brought by this marriage. It is possible to say that early marriage leads to the deprivation of women's right to education, the increase in the responsibility of childcare and domestic care, the emergence of negative and destructive effects on social life, and the deepening of poverty. In addition, due to the difficulties caused by early marriage and being an immigrant, women experience domestic violence, economic, biopsychosocial and physical problems that are difficult to overcome in their life.
