Kosovo has become independent, but this independence has not emerged as a result of a natural development process in terms of its importance and affects. The Kosovo issue has been a source of struggle between the supporters and opponents of the independence of Kosovo. Although the opponents are opposed to it because of their internal concerns and their worries on prominent issues by underlining some international law principles (such as territorial integrity), they are worried mostly on the former. The supporters of independence act according to their own interests and base their views on international law concepts (such as self-determination). Kosovo’s independence has not actually been approved by the international community. The fact that Kosovo will not be a member of the UN unless the Russian veto is overcome proves this. Kosovo tries to demonstrate that it is really an independent state. Turkey has played an effective role in the independence of Kosovo and has adopted a proactive approach instead of pursuing policy of “wait and see”, “neutrality” or “non-interference”
