Dışlanma ve Umut Arasında: Suriyeli Yükseköğretim Öğrencilerinin Deneyimleri

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Suriyeli yükseköğretim öğrencilerinin yükseköğretime erişim ile eriştikten sonraki deneyimlerini incelemektir. Buna ilaveten, bu çalışmada, Suriyeli öğrencilerin diğer öğrenciler, akademik ve idari personel ile ilişkileri ele alınacaktır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu araştırmada, yarı yapılandırılmış soru formları ile derinlemesine mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Maksimum çeşitlilik örneklem tekniği ile katılımcılar belirlenmiş ve Ankara’da farklı üniversite ve fakültelerde öğrenim gören Suriyeli 14 lisans öğrencisiyle görüşülmüştür. Suriyeli öğrencilerin TÖMER sürecinde Türkçeyi yeterli düzeyde öğrenememeleri üniversitede ve sosyal yaşamda birçok güçlüğe neden olmaktadır. Suriyeli öğrenciler üniversite başvurularında, üniversite kayıt sürecinde, derslerde, sınavlarda ve ders sonrası akademik ve idari personelle etkili bir iletişim kurma konusunda güçlükler yaşamışlardır. Suriyeli öğrencilerin sosyal ilişkilerinde, yerli öğrenciler, akademik ve idari personeller tarafından maruz kaldıkları önyargılı tutumlar öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını ve üniversiteye uyum süreçlerini olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore the experience of Syrian higher education students with access to higher education. In addition, in this study, the relationships of Syrian students with other students, academic and administrative staff will be discussed. In this study, which uses the quality research method, deep interviews have been made with semi-structured forms of questions. With the maximum diversity of sample technique, participants have been identified and discussed with 14 Syrian bachelor students studying at different universities and faculties in Ankara. The failure of Syrian students to learn Turkish at a sufficient level in the TOMER process causes many difficulties in the university and social life. Syrian students have experienced difficulties in effectively communicating with academic and administrative staff in their university applications, university registration process, courses, exams and post-class. In the social relationships of Syrian students, the predictive attitudes exposed by indigenous students, academic and administrative staff have a negative impact on student academic achievements and the processes of adaptation to the university.

The aim of this study is to examine Syrian students’ experiences before and after enrolling in higher education. The study also aims to analyze Syrian students’ relations with other students as well as academic and administrative staff. In this study, a qualitative research method was used, and in-depth interviews were conducted with semi-structured questionnaires. The participants were identified with the maximum diversity sampling technique, and 14 Syrian undergraduate students were interviewed from different universities and faculties in Ankara. The fact that Syrian students have not excelled in Turkish during the TÖMER (Center for Learning Turkish Language) causes many challenges for them in the university and social life. Syrian students have difficulties in establishing effective communication with academic and administrative staff during the university application, registration, and at the courses, exams, and after class activities. Attitudes with prejudices towards Syrian students’ by local students, academic and administrative staff have an adverse effect on Syrian students’ academic performance and adaptation process
