Abstract:

The study aimed to examine the relationship between mothers' conscious awareness levels in parenting and pre-school children's anxiety levels and friendship skills. The study group of the research consisted of 48-72-month-old children attending pre-school education in the central districts of a province in the Central Black Sea region in the 2021-2022 academic year and their mothers. The data collection tools used in the study were the Mindfulness in Parenting Questionnaire (MIPQ) developed by Gördesli et al, the Revised Pre-school Anxiety Scale, the validity and reliability analysis of which was conducted by Güler and Totan, and the Friendship Skills subscale of the Pre-school Social Skills Evaluation Scale (PSSES) developed by Ömeroğlu et al. with the support of TÜBİTAK. In this study, the relational survey model was applied. Pearson Product Moments Correlation Coefficient was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study, a negative and low-level significant relationship was found between the mothers' total scores of conscious awareness in parenting, parental self-efficacy, sub-dimensions of being present with the child, and the anxiety level of the children. A moderate positive correlation was found between mothers' total scores of conscious awareness in parenting and parental self-efficacy and sub-dimensions of being present with the child and children's friendship skills. In addition, it was determined that there was a low negative correlation between children's total anxiety, social anxiety and generalized anxiety sub-dimensions, and friendship skills. The findings were discussed and various recommendations were proposed.
