Küresel güç rekabetinin oldukça artmış olduğu bu dönemde, dünyada iki önemli aktör olan ABD ve Çin birçok konuda karşı karşıya gelmektedir. Son dönemlerde iki büyük gücü karşı karşıya getiren önemli bir konu da denizlerdeki güç mücadelesi olmuştur. Özellikle gücün Asya-Pasifik coğrafyasına kayması, ABD’yi de bölgeye yönelmeye sevk etmiştir. Asya’da yükselişe geçen ve istikrarlı bir büyüme kaydeden Çin ile süper güç konumunu kaybetmek istemeyen ABD’nin çıkarları bu coğrafyada çakışmaktadır. Sahip olduğu jeopolitik önem, yer altı kaynakları, biyolojik çeşitliliği ve deniz ticaretindeki önemli konumuyla Güney Çin Denizi, ABD ve Çin’i Batı Pasifik’te jeopolitik bir rekabete sürüklemiştir. Gerek bölge ülkeleri gerekse büyük güçler arasında mücadeleye sahne olan Güney Çin Denizi, giderek artan çatışmalarla daha da istikrarsız bir bölge haline gelmektedir. ABD, bireysel girişimleri yanında bölgede kurduğu ikili ve çok taraflı müttefikliklerle Çin’i çevrelemeye ve bölgedeki Çin egemenliğini kısıtlamaya çalışmaktadır. Çalışmada Güney Çin Denizi’ndeki Çin-ABD mücadelesi, iki ülkenin bölgede birbirlerine yönelik gerçekleştirdikleri hamlelerle ele alınmaya çalışılacaktır.
During this period when the global power competition has increased considerably, the two major actors in the world, the United States and China, are facing many issues. One of the most important issues facing two great powers in recent times has been the power struggle in the seas. Specifically, the power shift to the Asia-Pacific geography has led the United States to move to the region. The interests of the U.S., which are rising and recording a stable growth in Asia, and China, which does not want to lose its superpower position, are in conflict in this geography. With its geopolitical importance, underground resources, biological diversity and its important position in maritime trade, South China Sea, the United States and China have driven into a geopolitical competition in the West Pacific. The South China Sea, which is the scene of struggle between the countries of the need region and the great powers, is becoming an even more unstable region with increasing conflicts. The United States, along with its individual initiatives, is trying to surround China with its bilateral and multilateral allies in the region and to limit China’s sovereignty in the region. The study will try to deal with the Chinese-US struggle in the South China Sea by the movements the two countries are doing against each other in the region.
