Abstract:

Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, who lived in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Republic, is a versatile scholar, intellectual and politician, also he is familiar with the codes of society. Elmalılı, who has an active understanding of religion that touches every aspect of life, deeply examined the reflections of the Allah-human relationship on social life and tried to explain the strength of this bond with "taqwa". The concept of "taqwa", which is generally referred to as entering into the protection of Allah or the whole of behaviors that will provide this protection, is one of the main subjects of the Qur'an. This concept has found a special place in Elmalılı's work called "Hak Dini Kur'an Dili". In a period of time, the idea of Westernization which excludes indigenous culture and Islamic identity, was popular and seeking refuge in the west was perceived as the only solution, this valuable work, "The ageless meaning embodied in the new language"; presents the concept of taqwa, which has a meaning cycle such as taking refuge in Allah alone and demanding His protection, from a different perspective. In this article, the concept of "taqwa", which touches on the two hundred and fifty-eight verses of the Qur'an, will be examined from the perspective of Elmalılı in his book of "Hak Dini Kur’an Dili".
