Abstract:

This study was planned to evaluate the professional awareness levels of the students of Health Sciences University, Gülhane Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Orthotics and Prosthesis. 86 students of Orthotics and Prosthesis Department participated in the study. In this cross-sectional study, after questioning the descriptive characteristics of the volunteer students using the online form, A Çaprofessional awareness questionnaire created by the authors by scanning the literature and consisting of 17 multiple-choice questions was applied. In addition, as it may affect professional awareness, parameters such as the researches of the students about the profession and the reason for choosing this department were questioned. Participants were also asked about their level of satisfaction with being placed in the department. It was seen that 54.3% of the questions of the professional awareness questionnaire were answered correctly. The correct answer rates of the second year students were significantly higher (p<0.05). Among the factors affecting the choice of profession of the participants, being a profession that could help other people, their interests and job opportunities were at the forefront. Most participants stated that their individual characteristics were appropriate with the department and they were satisfied with the department. The fact that the level of professional awareness is low in some subjects, despite the fact that research is done before choosing, suggests that approaches to raising awareness are necessary.
