Tonyukuk Yazıtı’nın içerik ve dil analizi yöntemleriyle incelendiği çalışmalar bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma Tonyukuk metnini eleştirel söylem analizi yöntemiyle dönemin siyasi ortamı ve iktidar dengeleri göz önüne alarak incelenmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bilge Tonyukuk, kendi siyasi ve askerî başarılarıyla birlikte Köktürklerin, dönemin iktidar mücadelesi sürecinde kazandığı zaferleri anlatmak amacıyla bu yazıtı oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmada Tonyukuk’un metni yazma amacına hizmet eden söylem unsurları bazı kategorilere ayrılmış ve metin özellikle van Dijk’in eleştirel söylem analizi yöntemleriyle incelenmiştir. Oluşturulan kategoriler, metindeki leksik ve semantik özellikler temelinde Tonyukuk’un metni oluşturma amacıyla ilişkilendirilerek bu dil bilgisi unsurlarına niçin başvurulduğu konusunda bazı sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır. Tonyukuk’un metni kurgulayış biçimi ve kullandığı dilsel malzemeler, eleştirel söylem analizinde kullanılan yöntemlerden çoğunun kullanılmasına izin vermiştir. van Dijk’in ortaya koyduğu inceleme yöntemlerine ek olarak bükülme ve keşfettirici üslup gibi kavramlar ortaya konularak metnin amacına uygun başka stratejiler de tespit edilmiştir. Metnin içinde başvurulan yöntemlerin çeşitliliği, metni siyasi bir propaganda aracı olarak ve millî benlik algısı açısından sağlam bir zemine oturtmaktadır.
There are studies that examine the content and language of the Tonyukuk Inscription using different analysis methods. This study aims to analyze the Tonyukuk text using critical discourse analysis, taking into account the political environment and power balances of the time. Bilge Tonyukuk created this inscription to narrate the victories that the Köktürks won during the political and military struggles of his time, along with his own political and military successes. In this study, the discourse elements that serve Tonyukuk's purpose of writing the text were categorized, and the text was analyzed, especially using the critical discourse analysis methods of van Dijk. Based on the lexical and semantic features in the text, some conclusions were drawn about why certain grammatical elements were used. Tonyukuk's style of constructing the text and his use of linguistic materials allowed for the use of many of the methods employed in critical discourse analysis. In addition to the analysis methods presented by van Dijk, other strategies suitable for the purpose of the text were identified, such as twist and exploratory style. The diversity of the methods used in the text contributes to its firm foundation as a political propaganda tool and a national identity perception.
