Abstract:

This study examines the problems and solution proposals of vocational and technical education in secondary education institutions with qualitative research method by taking the opinions of technical teachers. The data were collected using the interview method, and the opinions of the technical teachers on the subject were obtained through a semi-structured interview form with 7 questions. The sample of the study consists of 25 technical teachers working in a Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Bayrampaşa, Istanbul in the 2022-2023 academic year. In the study, the lack of workshops and equipment, the reluctance of the students, the low level of readiness of the students, the wrong school/field choice, teacher inadequacies, the lack of current curriculum and inadequacies, the negative view of the society on vocational education, disciplinary problems were defined as the problems of vocational and technical education by technical teachers. The solutions offered to these problems are listed as guiding students to vocational education during their transition to secondary education, eliminating the inadequacies of workshops and equipment in schools, increasing teacher qualifications, increasing the readiness level of students, implementing the programs prepared in cooperation with the school-sector after the equipment is completed and providing job opportunities to graduate students.
